Anyone who enjoys crossword puzzles knows a ewer is a pitcher – the kind for serving beverages, not the kind staring down a player at bat.
Pitchers are a common household item that for some reason are not used as often as they should be. A nice pitcher is an elegant way to serve beverages when you are entertaining. A set of handled pitchers holding juices or premixed cocktails are an easy way to class up a bar – just add a quick label identifying the contents and you are done. They are much nicer looking and easier to manage than a large plastic bottle straight off the grocery store shelf.
As we all know from our local bar, pitchers are also a great way to serve beer to a seated crowd.
The best thing about pitchers is that you can find them anywhere – whether glass, plastic, or ceramic, high-end or low, they are abundant. I prefer simple designs because they are more versatile, but an engraved or colored pitcher can be an artful addition to your table. Here are some of my favorites from around the web.
