I have been lucky enough to go to DIFFA’s Dining by Design, and the event is an endless treasure trove of inspirational ideas for table settings. The installations are professionally designed and luxurious in both execution and materials - but that doesn’t mean you can’t adapt some of the ideas for yourself.
One of my favorite ideas from DIFFA 2008 is this centerpiece by Kravet – glass cylinders of various heights filled with bright objets in every color of the rainbow. It is a wonderful, bouncy alternative to a floral centerpiece.
Wouldn’t this be delightfully unexpected at your dinner party? Get these nice cylinder vases at CB2 for $9 – $40; or scavenge a local thirft shop for inexpensive glass vases of varying shapes and sizes…

…then fill with skittles, colored rocks, aquarium gravel, spools of thread, colored rubber bands, marbles, lite brite pegs, dyed eggs…whatever you can imagine!
If you want to really go all out, sort everything by color. The visual impact would be amazing.
